Established in Scotland in 2010, Messyla began as a kitchen table craft and has now blossomed into a micro cottage industry.

We pride ourselves in creating simplistic and beautiful designs. Using the highest quality, natural and organic materials we can find. Our designs are fresh and unique – each a little bit different as everything is made by hand.

A self taught designer, I dreamt of owning my own little business with an emphasis on well made, practical and honest goods. Inspired by my country living and hunting down vintage finds, I have created a range of goods from bunting to cards; present tags to pincushions; cushions to bookmarks. And beyond. Expanding daily and always evolving to be the best we can be.

With a lot of hard work, late nights and moments of hysterical madness when I cried “what have I done?” (with a mixture of laughter, but a quivering lip none the less). I am proud to say that Messyla is stocked in a variety of the UK’s leading gift shops and in our very own E-shop. For those further afield and from the comfort of your own home.

Our ethos is to create gifts and goods you will be proud to own. Attention to detail is our forte and everything is hand-crafted and finished to the finest quality. As the Mollie Makes team said themselves “There’s nothing messy about this tidy lot!”.

I am a lover of traditional goods, red lipstick, stripy tops, long walks, my boyfriend Cam, our mascot and leading man (cat) Oscar, my wonderful and truly supportive family, bikes, delicious cakes with flat whites, supporting independent businesses, being kind to nature and collecting things. Every thing.

  11. hi I love your blog and was wondering if you could give me some advice. Is it hard to set up an etsy shop, and do you think it is better than folksy? xx

    • Hi! I am so glad you like my blog.. it means so much to me.

I prefer Etsy to folksy because I feel that more people are on Etsy.. It’s the kind of thing like “where can i get handmade things?” “Etsy, is good for handmade”. So you get more possible customers.

I think the best things to think about for an Etsy shop is to figure out what you want to sell and how it is different or better than what is out there already. But it’s easy to set up and use, as websites go.

If you have any more Q’s, please let me know!! :) I’d love to help. xx
